BAND HISTORY
The band was formed in June 1936 by members of the 43rd/48th Battalion and former Glenelg Municipal Band, later amalgamating to become the City of Adelaide Municipal Band. At the time the band was a brass band.
In February 1940 the City of Adelaide Council embraced the concept of forming a concert band from the nucleus of the predecessor the Adelaide Municipal Brass Band. The innovation only lasted a short period, and the band again reverted back to a brass band until 1998. As a result of lowering numbers within the band the council re embraced the concept of a concert band and the band has remained in this form till this day.
The current City of Adelaide Concert Band rehearses in the German Club in Flinders Street, Adelaide on Thursday evenings. The band provides free entertainment within the City of Adelaide precinct, as a part of its role in community service. The band also has a close association with its patron, the right Honorable Lord Mayor Michael Harbison and the Adelaide city Council which the band acknowledges for their support.
